LG G6 Rumor Roundup: What's The Story So Far?
South Korean OEM, LG is rumored to be readying its 2017 flagship — the LG G6 which is the successor of the LG G5 — for a March 10 release.
The LG G6 phablet is said to be gearing up for an end February debut and will be unveiled prior to the Mobile World Congress 2017.
Rumors and leaks pertaining to the Android-powered device have been swirling online for a while now. Here's a look at the rumored specs, features, pricing and release of the LG G6.
The LG G6 could sport a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ display with 4K resolution. The handset may be equipped with a curved screen — like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.
Under the hood, the LG G6 is expected house the latest Snapdragon 835 processor and a 6 GB of RAM.
The LG G6, consumers will be hoping, will be available in 32 GB, 64 GB and possibly 128 GB internal storage options unlike its modular LG G5 which came with 32 GB on-board storage.
The camera capabilities of the LG G6 are also expected to get a boost and consumers would be hoping for at least a 21-megapixel primary snapper, which betters the 16-megapixel one on the LG G5.
The LG G6 will likely come pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat and could boast a powerful battery, which offers great usage support.
The LG G6 could also see a removable battery instead of the non-removable battery. LG is reportedly playing it safe after observing Samsung's Galaxy Note 7's battery exploding debacle.
LG Pay — the company's mobile payment system — could also be launched on the LG G6. While the LG G5 boasts a fingerprint scanner, LG is reportedly looking to take things up a notch and is looking at embedding an iris scanner in the LG G6.
The LG G6 is also expected to offer wireless charging support, however, it is not known whether this functionality will eventually make it to the upcoming handset. The LG G6 will not be modular like the LG G5, which would enable the company to make the handset waterproof.
The "Always-On functionality" which allows users to go through notifications without turning the full display on, could also be included in the LG G6.
Price and Availability
The LG G6 will reportedly be made available in its home country South Korea, North America and Europe initially. Reports suggest that LG is looking to beat Samsung to the race and will release the LG G6 a week earlier than the former.
The LG G6 is expected to launch in the third week of February, before the MWC 2017 commences. The handset will hit the shelves in South Korea on March 10 per rumors, with a global rollout following soon after.
Little details are available on the handset's pricing, but the LG G6 is anticipated to start at $500.
