Sony is sprucing up its console offerings, adding a new color option for its PlayStation 4 Slim: Glacier White.
Finding a PS4 console in another color option besides the traditional black avatar is not easy to come by, as other options are as rare as the legendary Pokémon. Nevertheless, PS4 fans are now in luck as the company just announced a Glacier White PS4 Slim is set to go on sale later this month, on Jan. 24.
"Later this month you'll have the option of an all-new colour variation of the smaller, slimmer and lighter new-look PS4 console," says Sony.
Glacier White PS4 Slim Release
The new PS4 Slim in Glacier White will make its debut across the PAL region, but Sony makes no mention of a U.S. release at this point. It remains uncertain for now whether the white model will skip the United States or whether it will make its debut at a later date.
Considering that white consoles have generally been well-received in North America, however, a later release for the Glacier White PS4 Slim in the United States is not out of the question.
The Glacier White PS4 Slim will also come with a matching Glacier White DualShock 4 controller, and will retail alongside the original version in black. The white model comes with a 500 HDD, but a 1 TB version is also expected – at least for Japan.
As a reminder, the original PlayStation 4 model (non-Slim) was available in a white color option for a limited time back in 2014, as a special edition designed to celebrate the release of Bungie's Destiny. The model proved to be quite popular among PS4 fans, as it offered a new option other than the regular black model. Amazon is still selling a Glacier White PS4 model, imported from Japan.
Other PS4 versions in different color options have always been related to a specific game or event. The console turned red and gold for Metal Gear Solid V, for instance, or gray to celebrate 20 years of PlayStation.
Sony has yet to offer any additional details regarding pricing and availability for the Glacier White PlayStation 4 Slim. Instead, the company simply invites interested fans to check with their local retailers for more information.
At the same time, the company doesn't mention whether this white PS4 Slim is here to stay or whether it will be just a limited-time option. In any case, interested customers might want to preorder one as soon as they get the chance.
White PS4 Pro Requests
Commenting on Sony's blog post announcement for the Glacier White PS4 Slim, fans have also been requesting a white model of the more powerful PS4 Pro. Sony has yet to respond to such requests, but if it's a popular demand it might eventually give in and offer such an option.
