Like a giant vending machine on wheels, the Amazon Treasure Truck has been driving around Seattle offering great deals for customers.

This past week, the quirky design of the roving store was patented. The filing covers the design of the Isuzu cabover truck, which includes the vehicle's boxy back end and the marquee sign on top.

A patent was applied for the Amazon truck's design last April 17, 2015 by its inventors Sherman Griffin, Samuel Pike Hall VI, and Douglas James Herrington, who are all based in Seattle.

The truck also made an appearance at the recently concluded CES 2017. Also worth noting is the fact that Amazon is currently looking for a senior product manager for Treasure Truck. These could be signs that Amazon plans to put the Treasure Truck in other cities outside of the company's hometown - Seattle - although no official announcement has been made yet.

What Is The Amazon Treasure Truck?

The Treasure Truck is the latest gimmick of Amazon as it aims to expand beyond its online operations and explore selling in the physical world. With Treasure Truck, Amazon is taking its deal-of-the-day concept out into the streets.

The Seattle-based retail giant has achieved huge retail success through its online efforts, and have come up with ways in order to establish a stronger physical presence. The company has come up with brick-and-mortar establishments, such as the Amazon Bookstore, and its latest project, the Treasure Truck.

Amazon has compared this project as something like an ice cream truck for grownups. The design of the truck does look like something out of a carnival hawker, with its colorful marquee-style signage and LED message boards.

How Does The Treasure Truck Work?

Here's how Treasure Truck works. First, you must download the Amazon mobile shopping app on your phone. You can check the app to find out what the deal is today, or you can set it up to receive push notifications if you want to know what product is being offered each day. If the deal is something you are interested in, simply purchase the item from your app and claim it from a predetermined drop-off point.

The special deals that the company provides using the Treasure Truck come from a wide range of products, such as hard-to-find gourmet items and electronics. The Treasure Truck's debut deal was a $99 Solstice stand-up inflatable paddleboard that originally retailed for $476.99.
