You can add "box office hit" to the list of accolades that budget film Get Out has earned.

The directorial debut film of comedian Jordan Peele Get Out topped the box office this weekend, earning $30.5 million in its 3-day weekend run. It overtook previous topnotcher The LEGO Batman Movie, who ruled for two straight weeks. The animated flick bagged $19 million, which is enough to land it on the second spot. At the third position is assassin movie John Wick: Chapter 2 with $9 million in take-home.

Completing the top ten are: fantasy epic The Great Wall with $8.7 million; sex flick Fifty Shades Darker with $7.7 million; comedy Fist Fight with $6.4 million; historical feature Hidden Figures with $5.9 million; Oscar-nominated musical La La Land with $4.6 million; thriller Split with $4.1 million; and drama Lion with $3.8 million.

Get Out Gets In

Get Out is a comedy, political satire, social commentary, and thriller all rolled into one. It is helmed by first-time Jordan Peele, the other half of the comedic duo Key And Peele. The film premiered on Jan. 24 at Sundance Film Festival and opened on Feb. 24 in the United States. Since its release, it has garnered critical acclaims, even earning a perfect score.

Get Out tells the story of an African-American man who visits his Caucasian girlfriend's family in their estate. This interracial relationship is just the tip of this thriller iceberg, as the man later discovers a terrifying secret that the family keeps, paving the way for a gripping narrative full of social issues, suspense, and occasional comedy.

Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, Lakeith Stanfield, and Stephen Root. The script was written by Peele, who also co-produced it together with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. The production house, of course, is known for its hit horror films such as Paranormal Activity and Insidious. The film was distributed by Universal Pictures.

With only a budget of $4.5 million, the earnings is already a financial success for the film. This windfall is already good, considering that the Marvel superhero film Logan is set to hit the screens this week, which based on positive reviews, will definitely take a slice of the box office pie.

The LEGO Batman Movie, 'Fifty Shades' Fades Into The Dark

The animated DC flick slides into top two after ruling for two weeks. The $19 million-earnings brings the domestic total of The LEGO Batman Movie to $133 million and the worldwide total to $226 million.

S&M fantasy Fifty Shades Darker's $7.7 million brings its United States earnings to $103 million. The movie continues to squeeze dollars worldwide, bringing its total to $328.3 million.
