BBM App For Android Gets An Update: Here's Whats New
BlackBerry is pouring its heart and soul into its messaging service - the BlackBerry Messenger - which is more commonly called BBM.
The company is now rolling out a new update for Android users of the BBM app.
This is the second update that comes users' way this month as BlackBerry had pushed out the first update on March 1. The earlier update brought noticeable changes not only in the Android version of the app, but also the iOS one.
BBM Update Features
The latest update that has been pushed out by BlackBerry is for Android users alone. The update was rolled out on March 16 and brings the BBM app for Android to version 126.96.36.199.
Apart from a significant UI revamp - that adds several new options for chats - there are also some changes in layout for the main navigation menu of the messaging app.
The biggest and the most major change that can be noticed in the update is the inclusion of quick reply notification support for Android Nougat. Thus, users of Android Nougat supported smartphones like KEYone and Aurora - which are already available in the market - as well as upcoming handsets such as the LG G6, will have a smooth BBM experience. Users will not have to open the app to key in a response every time a message pops up thanks to the quick reply feature.
The changelog for the Android app for BBM reveals that users will also benefit from updated icons for both video and voice calling on BBM. It also brings performance enhancements, as well as bug reports support. Users also benefit from the inclusion of infrastructure features to help reduce spam invites.
The update also brings joint group management and BBM Group features on the chat screen. Post the update, users will be able to see all the chat conversations in one place. The BBM app for Android also gets the Introduced Me and Discover screens, which can be accessed from the main navigation menu. It is in the Me screen that users of the app will find the BBM Settings. They will also be able to seamlessly access their BBM Profile and BBM Channel from here.
The latest update bears testimony to the fact that the messaging app has long-term plans. BlackBerry is keeping users comfort in mind as it continues to roll out new updates for the messaging app.
How To Get The Update
To install the update successfully, Android users needs to go to the Google Play Store app on their phone. Next, go to the hamburger menu on the top left of the screen. Once the user reaches the hamburger menu, he or she needs to select "My apps and games" option.
Once this option has been selected, a list of all the apps that have been downloaded by the user from Play Store will appear on screen in list form. The user needs to scroll down to BBM and click on update.
Android users who do not have the BBM app, can download it from the Play Store.
