Android Wear 2.0 Coming To LG Watch R And LG Watch Urbane
Owners of select LG smartwatches will soon get a taste of Android Wear 2.0 as the company has announced that is rolling out the much-awaited update.
A few days ago, reports suggested that Android Wear 2.0 was making its way out to the LG Watch R and the original LG Watch Urbane. However, the South Korean OEM stayed mum and did not shed any light on the supposed rollout.
On Sunday, April 7, LG announced that it is pushing out the Android Wear 2.0 update to the original edition of Watch Urbane and Watch R.
The rollout announcement was shared publicly by LG via a post on Google+.
"Meet the next generation smartwatches! #LG's smartwatches begin update to Google's latest wearable OS, Android Wear 2.0," announced LG.
Second-Gen LG Watch Urbane Excluded From The Update?
While owners of the first-gen LG Watch Urbane can rejoice, the same does not hold true for Watch Urbane 2nd Edition owners.
LG shared that owners of the second-gen Watch Urbane would not be getting the Android Wear 2.0 update alongside the original Watch Urbane Edition and the Watch R. However, owners of the second-gen Watch Urbane need not fret as LG will push out the Android Wear 2.0 Update for the smartwatch in early May.
LG Watch Urbane And LG Watch R
When it released, the original LG Watch Urbane was a path breaker in several categories. It was the first smartwatch that came armed with Android Wear along with an LTE connection. It was also the first to enable speaker for voice calls and featured multiple function buttons.
The LG Watch Urbane was launched two years back on April 27, 2015, in silver and gold. The LG Watch Urbane comes with a 1.3-inch P-OLED display. The Watch can be paired with an Android device or iPhone.
The original version runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and comes with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of in-built storage.
LG Watch R, on the other hand, has been discontinued by the company. The smartwatch runs on Snapdragon 400 processor and comes with 4 GB of in-built storage.
Fueled by a 410 mAh battery, the smartwatch has IP67 certification and is dustproof and water resistant for up to 1 meter, for 30 minutes.
Android Wear 2.0 Update
Android Wear 2.0 brings several exciting features such as personalized watch faces, new ways for using apps, smooth function, and support for Google Assistant.
LG Watch Style and Watch Sport were the first smartwatches to launch with Android Wear 2.0 in tow.
Moto 360 (2nd Gen.), Polar M600, Casio PRO TREK Smart, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, Tag Heuer Connected, ASUS ZenWatch 3, and ASUS ZenWatch 2 are some of the other smartwatches that have already received, or will benefit from Android Wear 2.0 software update.
