iPhone 8 Could Sport Stainless Steel Body, Vertical iSight Camera, And More
The next big release in the smartphone market for which all the tech enthusiasts are waiting with bated breath is Apple's 10th anniversary handset — the iPhone 8 or iPhone X.
The impending device is constantly under the limelight courtesy the incessant leaks and rumors. The latest rumors suggest that the iPhone 8 may sport a vertical iSight camera, a stainless steel chassis, and a flat OLED display.
The suppositions were brought to light by Japanese blog Mac Otakara, which shared the news on Monday, April 17.
Glass Sandwich Design To Make A Comeback?
Sources familiar with the matter informed the publication that Apple has more or less finalized the iPhone 8's design. The sources revealed that the company may use the glass sandwich design with a stainless steel body for the upcoming iPhone.
The report stated that the glass sandwich design has cleared Apple's engineering verification testing and may get implemented in the impending iPhone 8.
The glass sandwich design deploys a thin stainless steel chassis, which is sandwiched between two slabs of glass. This design was last used in the iPhone 4 series, which was launched in 2010.
However, it is still unclear whether the chassis' exterior will sport a polished or matte look.
Curved Glass With Flat OLED Display?
The latest report contradicts previous rumors, which suggested that Apple may use some sort of wraparound display for the impending smartphone.
According to the report, the iPhone 8 may feature a slightly curved 2.5D glass wrapping. However, the OLED display beneath the glass wrapping would be a completely flat one.
Although initial rumors pointed at a curved OLED display for iPhone 8, new reports point to a flat panel design. This will help Apple simplify the production process.
Touch ID And Vertical iSight Camera
For those wondering about the security features, the latest report does not contribute anything new regarding Apple's Touch ID inclusion. It falls in line with previous rumors stating that Apple will replace the physical home button with a Touch ID fingerprint module.
News of Apple working toward incorporating a Touch ID system in the iPhone was first revealed by KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in February.
Kuo, along with several other tech enthusiasts, has consistently implied that Apple is planning to embed the Touch ID fingerprint scanner beneath the smartphone's display. While Mac Otakara did not add anything new to these assertions, it did not verify the same.
As for the camera, the new leak shares that Apple may equip the iPhone 8 with a vertically arranged iSight module-enabled dual-camera setup. This would reportedly complement the current-gen smartphone-powered VR headsets.
"By placing the iSight Duo camera vertically, we predict that VR shooting using Emergent VR technology etc. will be possible when the main body is set sideways (translated)," stated Mac Otakara.
