New Apple Watch NikeLab Will Hit The Shelves In April End
Nike collaborated with Apple to introduce the Apple Watch Nike+ in September 2016. This smartwatch was especially designed for fitness-oriented consumers. Nike even designed its own operating system, which worked alongside Apple's watchOS 3.
On Thursday, April 20, Nike announced the arrival of the Apple Watch NikeLab, which is the second iteration of its smartwatch in partnership with Apple.
"The long-standing partnership continues with NikeLab — the company's collaborative innovation platform — through the launch of Apple Watch NikeLab," noted the company.
Apple Watch NikeLab: Features
Surprisingly, the Apple Watch NikeLab houses specs which are the same as those touted on the older-gen Apple Watch Nike+. This suggests that the Apple Watch NikeLab is not really a successor of the Apple Watch Nike+.
The visible difference between the Apple Watch NikeLab and the Apple Watch Nike+ is that the latest model provides customers a new shade and design, which was not present in the older wearable.
The limited edition Apple Watch NikeLab comes in a Space Grey aluminum case and a Black/ Light Bone Nike Sports Band. The smartwatch also bears the "NikeLab Innovation x Innovators" logo on its rear.
Apart from these, all other features remain same as in the Apple Watch Nike+. The Apple Watch NikeLab runs on watchOS 3 and houses a dual-core processor. It is also water resistant — up to 50 meters — which will allow owners to take a dip in the pool with the watch on. However, deep water activities like scuba diving are not recommended while wearing the smartwatch.
The smartwatch also supports the Nike+ Run Club app, which lets users keep a track of their running activities. It even features additional commands for Siri.
"Apple Watch NikeLab is the ultimate style companion for those with a passion for running, whether emerging runners or marathon veterans," notes the company.
Like the first iteration, the Apple Watch NikeLab will come in two variants — 38 mm and 42 mm.
Availability And Price
The Apple Watch NikeLab will go on sale from April 27 on Nike's own website. It will also be available at NikeLab doors and from Isetan Shinjuku's Apple Watch Store. However, the limited edition model will not be available in any of Apple's physical retail stores across the world. The smartwatch will not be up for sale on Apple's online store either.
Nike did not disclose the pricing details of the device. However, considering the fact that the Apple Watch NikeLab bears the same features as the Apple Watch Nike+, it can be deduced that Nike will sell the latest smartwatch for $369 and $399 for the 38 mm and 42 mm variants, respectively.
