Several hotly-anticipated games of 2017 released in March. A list of the best-selling titles of the month showed that "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" managed to beat all others to become the highest-selling game of March.  ( Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands )

It has already been a very eventful year for video games with the arrival of the new Nintendo Switch console, and the subsequent release of the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game for the same.

March saw the arrival of two heavy hitters, namely Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Mass Effect: Andromeda. Even though both titles received mixed reviews, gamers all over the world still purchased and played both games.

Sales analyst NPD published the list of the top 10 best-selling games in March 2017 for the United States. Ghost Recon: Wildlands dominated the sales, followed by Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Mass Effect: Andromeda came in third, followed closely by Horizon: Zero Dawn, and MLB The Show 17.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

The first open world game in the Ghost Recon series, developed by Ubisoft Paris and released on March 7 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Ghost Recon: Wildlands is essentially a tactical shooter which features solo, co-op, and a soon-to-be-released competitive multiplayer mode.

The game offer players the choice between stealth and combat. It also features a dynamic day and night cycle, which greatly effects visibility during missions and affects the outcome.

The game received an overall positive feedback from critics with GameSpot and IGN giving it a score of 7 and 7.9, respectively. Ghost Recon: Wildlands was the best-selling game of March according to NPD. Those interested can pick it up from Ubisoft's site.

Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Nintendo developed the game for its Switch and Wii U consoles and it was released on March 3. The game comprises protagonist Link who suffers from amnesia and wakes up from a 100-year-long sleep at the beginning of the game.

Breath of the Wild was lauded by critics and gamers alike for the splendid open world and art style. This is the first time that a Zelda game has gone open-world. The game achieved near-perfect scores from all reviewers, with both GameSpot and IGN awarding it 10 on 10.

The total sales of the game reached 1.3 million units, out of which 900,000 were for Switch versions. It was thus ranked second in NPD's list of the top-selling games. People can buy a copy of it from Nintendo's site.

Mass Effect: Andromeda

BioWare's fourth installment in the series — Mass Effect: Andromeda — released on March 21 in North America for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It places players in the shoes of the main protagonist Ryder as they journey across the Andromeda Galaxy in search of humanity's new home.

The game received mixed reviews upon release. It garnered criticism from the gaming community at large due to its subpar character models and facial animations. However, this did not dissuade players and the latest Mass Effect game has come in at number three.

Interested gamers can pick up the game from EA's website.

Other Games To Make The List

PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn managed to maintain its place in the top-selling games in March. The NPD report suggests that the game sold twice as many units as the PS4 launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall.

MLB The Show 17, Grand Theft Auto V, For Honor, NBA 2K17, Nier: Automata, and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare were the other games which featured in the best-selling list for March.
