'Call Of Duty: WW2' Multiplayer To Include Female Characters
Call of Duty games are known for their intense action-packed campaigns, but more for its multiplayer mode which manages to keep fans satisfied for long. A new announcement from a developer of the upcoming Call of Duty: WW2 game confirms that it will feature female playable characters in the multiplayer modes.
Women have been seen in the multiplayer mode since Call of Duty: Ghosts released back in 2013. However, fans have questioned the historical accuracy of putting women soldiers in the game, which is set during World War 2.
Female Playable Characters In Multiplayer
The revelation about the inclusion of female multiplayer playable characters came when a fan quizzed Sledgehammer Studio's cofounder Michael Condrey about the same on Twitter. Condrey replied in the affirmative.
@indy8818 Yes, for sure!

As soon as news of the confirmation spread, fans pointed out that inclusion of female soldiers would compromise the authenticity of the setting, which in this case is World War 2. Previous games in the franchise with female soldiers were either set in the present or the future.
Some fans even compared it to Battlefield 1 which is a game set during World War 1. The developers of the game had considered putting in playable female characters, but decided against it in the end to maintain historic accuracy and believability.
"I feel like the developers should have done the same thing. I highly doubt there were many females participating on the warground (not nurses) in WWII. Black Ops 2 has female characters, but that's a game that is set in the future," a redditor pointed out.
Women Combatants In World War 2
While there is no doubt that men primarily fought in World War 2, nations such as France and Russia deployed some women as combatants. Even Hitler took this route toward the end. So, historically speaking, it may make some sense to include female playable characters.
"Women fought in WWII, so it would be fairly reasonable to put one or two in the game. In WWI you would be hard pressed to find more than a few women that fought," another redditor expressed.
Other fans have also pointed out that the developers claimed to have included the female characters only in the multiplayer section, which does not follow any story line. So, the inclusion of women may be justified to some extent.
Earlier, developers also revealed that a Zombies mode would be included in the multiplayer. Zombies are needless to say totally historically inaccurate, but fans did not seem to have a problem with this mode's inclusion.
