Is Apple Likely To Bundle Free AirPods With iPhone 8?
The latest iPhone 8 rumor will please music lovers. According to an analyst at JPMorgan, the impending iPhone 8 may come bundled with free AirPods. The wireless headphones — which were introduced with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — are available as an additional purchasable accessory.
The EarBuds that were bundled with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were wired and came with a lightning connector to link it to the iPhone.
Prior to this, JPMorgan analysts claimed that instead of a September launch, Apple would release its 10th anniversary smartphone — also dubbed the iPhone X — at the WWDC in June along with two new iPhone iterations, presumably the successors of the current flagships.
Free AirPods With iPhone 8?
JPMorgan has a mixed track record in the context of future Apple product predictions. As part of a note to investors, which MacRumors shared, an analyst from the firm suggests that Apple may pack the AirPods in the same box as the iPhone 8. However, this prediction seems unlikely due to the high base price of the AirPods compared to the wired EarPods.
Apart from the price factor, another issue that makes the suggestion an unlikely occurrence is the demand and supply gap. Currently, AirPods continue to face a six-week shipment time if ordered via Apple's online store.
So, if this delay continues and if the AirPods are indeed bundled in the box, it will negatively impact the shipment of iPhone 8. Apple would not intentionally hamper the delay of the newly-launched flagship for an additional accessory. Given that JPMorgan's track record for the prediction of Apple products is yet to show accuracy, it is advisable to take this rumor with a grain of salt.
iPhone 7s And iPhone 7s Plus Predictions
Apart from the AirPods prediction, the analyst also suggests that the other two impending Apple smartphones — iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus — will undergo some visual changes when compared to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The changes that have been listed in the JPMorgan report include the incorporation of 2.5D glass backs in lieu of the aluminium chassis, as well as wireless charging capabilities being embedded in the handsets.
The note to investors also mentions that the iPhone 8 chassis will be manufactured from stainless steel and glass. On the other hand, the iPhone 7s series will be made up of glass and aluminium and will retain the aluminium sides.
The analyst also predicts that the upcoming iPhone 8 would boast a 5.85-inch horizontal (and not vertical) edge-to-edge OLED display with minimum top and bottom bezels. The report also shares iPhone 8 schematics, but the drawings contradict rumors that the glass display will cover the entire front part of the iPhone 8, with no bezels on any side of the smartphone.
