Samsung is looking to provide the ultimate virtual reality experience to children and apparently plans on developing a Kids Mode for its Gear VR headset.

The news comes courtesy publication SamMobile, which does not elaborate on its information source.

"As per the information we've come across, Samsung is working to bring Kids Mode for the Gear VR," the publication shared.

Samsung's Gear VR headset is doing quite well compared to its rivals and accounted for nearly 782,000 unit sales in the first quarter of 2017. Samsung is constantly trying to include more and more features in its VR headset to stay relevant. Earlier in 2017, the company launched the new Gear VR headset with a wireless controller in tow.

Kids Mode For Gear VR Headset

This won't be the first time that Samsung would be developing a Kids Mode for one of its devices. The South Korean OEM already has a Kids Mode app for its Galaxy series of smartphones. So, it can be safely assumed that the company is trying to extend the Kids Mode to its Gear VR headset as well.

It is currently unclear what Samsung plans to achieve with the introduction of the Kids Mode in the Gear VR headset. However, it can be assumed that the Kids Mode may bring content, which is specially curated for the kids.

The Kids Mode for Samsung Gear VR headset may also introduce features like time and parental control, which will effectively assist parents in keeping a check on their children. It will help ensure that kids do not spend too much time with the Gear VR Headset.

Based on the rumors, one can expect this feature to be rolled out along with the launch of Galaxy S9 or Galaxy Note 8. Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 would be unveiled in the latter half of 2017, whereas the Galaxy S9 may see a 2019 launch.

Apart from the Kids Mode app in Galaxy smartphones, Samsung also released a Galaxy Tab 3 Kids in 2013. The tablet was niche product made specifically for children and came with a tougher design for rough use and a kid-friendly user interface.

Samsung Gear VR Headset

The Gear VR headset was first announced in 2014 and was subsequently released in 2015. The device is portable VR headset and was developed in collaboration with Oculus. When paired with a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone, the handset acts as the headset's processor and also as its display.

The Gear VR headset, on the other hand, acts the controller for the field of view. The Gear VR headset is compatible with the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6+ edge, and Galaxy Note 5.

The Gear VR is currently available on Samsung's online store for purchase for $99.99. The virtual reality headset with a controller is also available on the online store and bears a price tag of $129.99.
