Blizzard kicked off the Overwatch Anniversary Event on May 23, rolling out more than 100 new items along with three new maps.

That's good news, right? Well, technically, it is, but not everyone's happy about it. That's because there are too many Legendary skins, and it costs way too much to get them all, which is terrible news for players who can't afford to miss out on any of them.

As a fortunate turn of events, the game's director Jeff Kaplan addressed the situation, and that means we could be looking at a solution that'll make everyone happy.

Kaplan: 'We Are Listening'

In the Overwatch Battle.net forums, Kaplan started a thread that responded to the ongoing hubbub regarding the Anniversary Event loot boxes.

"I just wanted to acknowledge that we've been following the threads about the loot box rewards as they pertain to the anniversary events, other events and loot boxes in general. The feedback and suggestions have been helpful to us. We had a really great discussion yesterday about the feedback we've been hearing this week. While I don't have any immediate action items to report, I thought it was important for you to know that we are listening," he says.

In case it's not obvious, the takeaway here is that players will have to voice their opinions to get results, as the developers' ears are open to suggestions. This is evidenced by the game director encouraging everyone to continue their discussions.

At any rate, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as the Overwatch development team is known to communicate with the community.

Behind The Commotion Surrounding The 'Overwatch' Anniversary Event Loot Boxes

To be exact, the Anniversary Event brought 108 new items to the table, and courtesy of Redditor Desks_up, the complete set breaks down to 11 Legendary skins, 24 dance emotes, 48 voice lines, and 25 sprays. All those items boil down to 56,475 credits.

For a better idea, previous events were nowhere near the total credits required to unlock all the stuff the current event introduced — Uprising had 95 items for 36,825 credits, Year of the Rooster had 99 items for 37,050 credits, Winter Wonderland had 94 items for 33,075, Halloween Terror had 94 items for 31,500, and, assuming that the content was purchasable, Summer Games had 72 items worth 32,250 credits.

In other words, it's just too expensive for some to acquire all the items.

Of course, no one's forcing anyone to grind and collect them all, but players aren't exactly happy about how difficult it is.

Long story short, the Overwatch development team may announce a solution of sorts sometime in the near future. It could be an efficient way to farm loot boxes, higher Legendary skin drop rate, or an extension for the Anniversary Event, which runs between May 23 and June 12.

It's also worth mentioning that Overwatch is free to play this until 11:59 p.m. PT, May 29, and it's the full package — access to all heroes, maps, and game modes.
