Pokémon Sun and Moon, featuring the sun-soaked Alola region, launched last year in November, so it's only natural if some gamers have retired from playing the game entirely. There might be a new reason to boot them up again, though.

Nintendo is now giving away a free Pokémon for those who have Sun and Moon. All players in Europe, Australia, and the United States can get a shiny Tapu Koko, an electric/fairy legendary Pokémon.

How To Get A Shiny Tapu Koko In 'Pokémon Sun' And 'Moon'

First, power up either Sun or Moon. Once you get to the menu screen, select the Mystery Gift option and choose to receive your gift via the internet. Once the process is completed, fire up the game. Go to any Pokémon Center and you'll find a delivery man waiting. Voilà! You now have a shiny new Tapu Koko.

Shiny Tapu Koko: Moveset, Item, Level

Tapu Koko will be at level 60 and comes with an Electric Seed, which complements the Pokémon's Electric Surge ability. Electric Seed, for those who don't know, boosts Tapu Koko's defense in Electric Terrain, which it creates once in the battlefield. The free Tapu Koko also comes with four moves: Nature's Madness, Discharge, Agility, and Electro Ball.

Make no mistake — this is the only legitimate way you'll get a Tapu Koko in its shiny form, because players will never encounter a shiny Tapu Koko just by roaming in the wild. The shiny variant sheds off its regular yellow-and-orange color combination for a more suave black and orange.

Pokémon Sun And Moon

Nintendo has been giving away a steady stream of free items and, sometimes, extremely rare Pokémon since the games launched several months ago, offering players a number of reasons to keep playing Sun or Moon.

Players won't bid goodbye to Alola anytime soon. This November, Nintendo plans to release two more titles in the form of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, which are set in the same world but feature an "alternate story."

Nintendo also confirmed during its E3 presentation this past June that Game Freak has begun development on a core RPG Pokémon title that's slated to hit the Switch, Nintendo's popular console, which is now having stock problems because of overwhelming demand.

Meanwhile, details about the rumored Pokémon Stars title for the Switch — remastered versions of Sun and Moon — remain slim.
