It seems Mass Effect: Andromeda has reached the end of its life. It's not going away or anything of that sort, of course — just that it won't receive any more major updates in the future, especially with regard to its single-player campaign.

No Single-Player DLC In The Future For 'Mass Effect: Andromeda': BioWare

BioWare issued the death knell Saturday, Aug. 19, confirming that version no. 1.10 was the final update for Mass Effect: Andromeda. No patches for single-player and in-game story content will be released in the future.

"Since the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda, we've worked hard to address feedback from our community," read BioWare's announcement.

Indeed. Upon launch, the game was hit with a surge of complaints about how odd the facial animations looked, among other qualms. Mass Effect: Andromeda had a chaotic five-year development period, which was met with delays, ditched plans for procedurally generated worlds a la No Man's Sky, and staff changes. Though creating it was a rocky period, Mass Effect: Andromeda managed to garner some good reviews, but not without receiving some negative criticism.

Why There Won't Be DLC In 'Mass Effect: Andromeda'

BioWare halting single-player updates has been rumored previously, so the news doesn't come entirely as a surprise. Don't fret, however — multiplayer will still be supported going forward, and BioWare will continue to tell stories in the Andromeda Galaxy through its upcoming comics and novels.

Several questions about Mass Effect: Andromeda still linger, such as the true benefactor of the Andromeda initiative, the fate of Ryder's family, and more details about Kett and Remnant's story. These may or might not be addressed in the comics or novels. Alternatively, BioWare could expand the lore through a sequel, although the company has confirmed that development for the next Mass Effect game might not happen anytime soon.

Not offering future story content might have been the original plan, by the looks of it. Consider the fact that BioWare didn't sell a season pass for story content when the game launched, and its messy development. Perhaps there wasn't much time to prepare for additional story content, or budget.

Kotaku even reported in June that single-player DLC would never arrive, which now turns out to be true. No one in BioWare Montreal can develop additional content, sources say, because the team had mostly been assigned to other projects, such as Anthem.

Perhaps it's a combination of a shaky development and lukewarm reception that eventually caused BioWare to nix story DLC plans. While the game has its shortcomings, it's not entirely a terrible entry to the Mass Effect franchise, and players at least deserve some answers to the Andromeda's still unsolved mysteries.

BioWare is keeping the mystery alive, it seems like.
