Nintendo released a surprise Nintendo Direct presentation. While it's only 15 minutes long, it's jam-packed with information regarding new titles, updates, re-releases, and remasters for the Switch.

After a mysterious tweet by the company, this presentation was released to tease fans for what's to come on the console.

Surprise Announcements

Today's Nintendo Direct presentation announced a slew of games for the console. Since the release of the new console, the Switch has been able to stagger the release of new original games and re-releases from the Wii U. Some new announcements in the presentation were expected, such as re-releases of Wii U games for the Switch. Others are the addition of a new game mode to Super Mario Odyssey and a Dark Souls remaster.

Nintendo is trying to bring more attention on titles released on previous systems that didn't receive enough play in the past. Going back to the Nintendo DS, it announced that The World Ends With You will be getting a re-release on the Switch. New additions from the Wii-U include Hyrule Warriors and Donkey Kong Country Freeze.

New DLC And Updates

There were also updates and DLCs announced for previously released games. Pokken Tournament will receive the Deluxe Battle Pack DLC. It will be released in two waves. The first wave, coming out on Jan. 31, will introduce Aegislash and a support set for Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. The second wave, coming out on March 23, introduces Blastoise and support for Mew and Celebi.

Another DLC announced was adding Donkey Kong to Mario + Rabbids, adding a new world and story to the game. It will be a paid DLC set to be released in spring 2018.

Super Mario Odyssey will also be receiving a new game mode, a free update introducing Balloon World. It's a new competitive mode that can be accessed by speaking to Luigi in New Donk City. The update being released in February will also add three new outfits to the game — a Super Mario Sunshine-inspired outfit, a musician outfit, and a knight armor.

New Titles And Ports

New titles being added to the Switch were the highlight of the presentation. Mario Tennis Aces was announced for a spring 2018 release — it will have story mode, the first since Mario Tennis: Power Tour on the Game Boy Advance.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy was announced, it will feature an all-female ensemble. Among the ports announced for the system, the biggest was the addition of the Dark Souls remaster to the Switch. Dark Souls will be released on May 25. Payday 2 was also announced for the Switch. A new exclusive character will be added to the game for the Switch: Joy, a "Japanese computer whiz."
