This VR experience shows you what mansplaining actually feels like

Finding and sticking to a workout routine isn't easy, even for those of us who are committed to getting in shape, as life tends to get in the way. We're all busy with work, school, taking care of family, making it challenging to find the time time to exercise.

But what if something could make working out more fun? Say, fighting off enemies in virtual reality while doing body-building movements at the gym?

Black Box VR, a startup based out of Boise, Idaho, announced its plan to open a boutique gym in San Francisco, later this year, during CES 2018. In fact, Black Box VR developed a fully automated cable resistance machine that integrates with HTC Vive, so users can get a great workout while immersed in highly competitive virtual reality fitness.

"In Black Box you will utilize strength, agility, balance, and speed in a larger-than-life virtual world where we are able to harness the nature that is brought out in video games - dedication, determination, and longevity - and turn it into real, physical workouts that challenge both mind and body," said Preston Lewis, Co-Founder of Black Box VR.

Black Box VR Inspires People To Reach Their Health And Fitness Goals

What inspired Black Box VR to develop the fully automated cable resistance machine with HTC Vive? After experiencing virtual reality for the first time, Lewis was inspired to create an immersive technology that will help people to reach their health and fitness goals.

Initially, Black Box VR will open its first location in San Francisco, with hopes of opening more across the United States. As far as the virtual reality workout experience, Black Box VR gym members will step into a black box, which then provides a gamified workout, tracking members progress as they fight off enemies.

The company has plans to give members the ability to compete against other players around the world, but that feature might not be available for a while. For now, members can compete against other local members for the top spot on the leaderboard.

Compared to doing regular exercise for 30-minutes, "You are giving 10/10 of your abilities but it feels like 6/10. Time flows by so quickly your 30 minute full-body virtual reality fitness experience feels like ten minutes," Black Box VR says.
