Dark Souls: Remastered is happening, and it's coming soon.

Now that it's confirmed, it's only a matter of time before everyone can get their hands on it. Before that, though, here's what you can expect from the remade Dark Souls based on speculations, rumors, and official announcements.

It's Heading To All Major Platforms

During Nintendo's Direct Mini, Dark Souls: Remastered was revealed to be available for the Nintendo Switch. That wasn't the only announcement From Software and Bandai Namco had in store, though. The game is also making its way to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

It'll go live across the platforms on May 25.

It's Bundled With Artorias Of The Abyss

The remaster of Dark Souls will come complete with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC, which was initially exclusive for the PC under the name Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.

Surprise, Surprise: Visual Improvements Included

No remaster can be complete without a couple of visual improvements here and there, and Dark Souls: Remastered is no exception.

That said, here are the resolutions and frame rate each platform can deliver:

• Xbox One: 1080p at 60 fps

• Xbox One X: Upscaled 4K at 60 fps

• PlayStation 4: 1080p at 60 fps

• PlayStation 4 Pro: Upscaled 4k at 60 fps

• PC: Native 4K, all textures 2K unconverted at 60 fps

• Nintendo Switch: 1080p at 30 fps in TV mode or 720p at 30 fps in handheld mode

Interestingly, there's no HDR support, though.

Multiplayer Count Increased

The multiplayer count is going from four to six.

New Multiplayer Dedicated Servers

The best part in terms of multiplayer is that there will be dedicated servers instead peer-to-peer ones. That should improve the overall experience, including invading and summoning.

Dark Souls III Password Matchmaking System Carried Over

Dark Souls: Remastered will have the same password matchmaking system as Dark Souls III.

No New Assets

When news of Dark Souls: Remastered first made rounds online, fans were up and about with their speculations and whatnot. Dark Souls scholar Michael Samuels, or better known as VaatiVidya, was one of them.

Initially, he claimed that the remaster of Dark Souls will use engine assets from Dark Souls III and feature HDR. As it turns out, the info he got was wrong.

Sony also made a blog post that mentioned HDR lighting, but Bandai Namco requested for it to be redacted.

It Could Be Discounted

Rumors of a 50 percent discount on Dark Souls: Remastered for owners of the original Dark Souls turned up online, but a Bandai Namco spokesperson put a stop to the idea by telling PC Gamer "there is no discount." Now a Bandai Namco community manager made a post on the Steam forums that the company hasn't "officially announced anything about the subject of a discount." In other words, there's a chance that some players are in for a bargain, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Bonus: It Gave Birth To This Fan-Made Poster

To wrap things up on a light note, the Nintendo's Dark Souls: Remastered announcement compelled designer and illustrator Thomas Jones to create this poster:

This is reminiscent of that Dark Souls fan video animated in the likeness of Cuphead.
