HTC officially reveals the latest member of their U11 catalog, the EYEs. This handset flaunts HDR Boost for its twin 5-megapixel selfie cameras.

Both sensors come with f/2.2 aperture and an 80-degree view as well as live bokeh.

Fans of HTC supposedly had high expectations that a new smartphone might make its debut during CES 2018. However, the company revealed a VR headset.

Industry analysts already expected that the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer will showcase its upgraded Vive Pro virtual reality device. Nevertheless, rumors persisted that it had a new smartphone model in the works. It's finally confirmed that the HTC U11 EYEs will join its lineup as part of the U series of handsets.

Evan Blass, renowned technology leak specialist, posted its official specifications ahead of time.

Design And Build Quality

Based on the initial images of the HTC U11 EYEs, it looks like a direct copy of the regular model. The firm's design team finally dropped its metal uni-body chassis, which the brand was known for in favor a glass and metal combo.

Instead of the premium matte metal back cover of their previous products, the U series has opted for curved Corning Gorilla Glass panels, which look classy together with the metal borders. The leak confirmed black, silver, and red as the initial color options available.

Some of the notable differences between the regular model and the EYEs version are the fingerprint sensor location, bezels, and front-facing camera. The original installed its biometric sensor on the bottom bezel up front, while the new unit has it underneath the main camera on the back.

Meanwhile, its selfie camera has added another sensor for a dual-lens setup, which is speculated to be its defining feature. Furthermore, its top and bottom bezels have been noticeably reduced.

Smartphone Specifications

Blass likewise shared the HTC U11 EYEs' product specifications on Twitter. A quick look at its details confirms that it sports components intended for the mid-range tier of mobile phones.

Even though the screen is now six inches, it seems to have been downgraded to the company's LCD3 model. Its chipset is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 with a 4 GB RAM.

The EYEs comes with a 64 GB internal memory with a microSD external storage expansion. To offset the bigger display, the 3000 mAh battery of the U11 was replaced with a bigger capacity unit at 3930 mAh. It charges via USB Type-C and the whole package is given an IP67-rated protection.

Features, Price, And Availability

The HTC U11 EYEs will reportedly keep the regular model's Edge Sense controls, which allows users to squeeze the smartphone's frame to execute functions or more. The smartphone will allegedly ship with Android Nougat instead of Oreo.

According to Blass, the EYEs will officially launch on Jan. 15, 2018, with an estimated price of $510.
