Chinese smartphone company Huawei has been attempting to make its way into the U.S. smartphone market with limited success.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2018, Huawei announced that its Mate 10 Pro smartphone was headed to the west. However, the news was overshadowed by an announcement that the carrier, AT&T, which was supposed to launch the device in the United States, dropped out of the deal.

Now, a senior XDA developer has confirmed that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro model and the Porsche Design Mate 10 Pro will support VoLTE on T-Mobile and AT&T in the United States. While the models support VoLTE, the developer notes that the smartphone devices will not support VoWi-Fi or Wi-Fi calling on T-Mobile and AT&T.

The devices arriving with VoLTE support means that the AT&T model is simply repurposed and being sold as a single-SIM unlocked device in the west. At the moment, it is unclear what bands the two smartphone devices will support on each network.

Huawei AT&T Pulled Deal

One of the biggest announcements from Huawei at CES 2018 was the partnership with a major U.S. cellular company. However, AT&T walked away from the deal to sell the Huawei smartphone device, the Mate 10 Pro.

According to reports, two individuals familiar with the plans said the reasons that led to AT&T’s shift are unclear.

There were speculations that a group of lawmakers wrote a letter to the Federal Communications Commission expressing concerns about the deal between AT&T and Huawei. The letter cited that lawmakers were concerned with the ties the smartphone company has to the Chinese government. More specifically, the letter said Congress expressed concerns about Chinese espionage and the smartphone company’s role in that espionage.

Huawei has always denied that it presents security risks. The New York Times reports that Huawei released a statement saying that it has delivered premium services and devices globally and to the United States without any concerns.
