The release of the Nintendo Super NES Classic Edition has been a hit with consumers and the latest numbers in terms of units sold is a testament to its success.

In Nintendo’s latest financial report, the company has disclosed that they have sold about four million Super NES Classic Edition units. That number includes sales in the United States as well as Japan and Europe.

These numbers show that the Super NES classic actually outsold the NES Classic Edition, which sold about 2.3 million units during its initial months of release. Numbers for the NES Classic Edition are sure to rise as the console will resume production in 2018. The Super NES console will also remain on sale in 2018 as well.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the gaming company views these classic consoles as a way to help grab interest in their current console, the Nintendo Switch.

With the success of both the NES and SNES classic editions, fans have been wondering if the gaming company will continue with the trend and release an N64 console next. It may be an accurate guess as a trademark filing from Nintendo suggests that it could be happening.

What Is The Super NES Classic Edition?

The classic Nintendo Console is a mini version of the ‘90s home console. It has the look and feel of the console including its controllers.

The console comes fully loaded with 21 games including Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, and many more. There are also two-player titles including Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting. It also includes the previously unreleased Star Fox 2 sequel.

Other features include the ability to rewind a minute or so based on the game’s last suspend point. There is also a demo mode that will replay a gamer's saved Suspend Points as part of the demo game footage. There is also a border around the games with a new frame feature. Some of the frames change color based on the game played.

The Super NES Classic Edition is compatible with the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro.

The Super NES Classic also comes with a mini SNES console with 21 games pre-loaded, two wired SNES controllers, an HDMI cable, and a USB cable with AC adapter. Gamers get all this for only $79.99.

The console is available at retail locations like Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and GameStop.
