After its absence from the public eye for quite some time, Undead Labs has confirmed that State of Decay 2 for the Xbox One and PC launches on May 22.

Sources said that gamers will be able to choose from two variants of the open-world zombie survival game. The Standard Edition is priced at $29.99 while the Ultimate Edition is offered for $49.99 and a preorder is now available.

Moreover, the upcoming game will be part of Microsoft's Play Anywhere program and Xbox Game Pass service as an added value for buyers.

Cost-Effective Price Point

It is immediately noticeable that the prices given for the two versions are lower than the usual AAA title on launch day. The publisher is presumably aware that consumers will have questions regarding the budget-friendly price.

"Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with the State of Decay community and to foster deeper experiences with the franchise. We believe State of Decay 2 accomplishes this goal by immersing fans in the ultimate zombie survival fantasy, and we want to give more players the opportunity to join in and experience this unique game," explains Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's general manager of Games Marketing.

What's Included With Each Version?

Undead Labs gives players two purchase options for State of Decay 2. Both of which are priced somewhat lower than most first-party published software. Frugal gamers will most likely take it into consideration due to its attractive price.

The Standard Edition of the Microsoft-exclusive title will apparently include just the base game itself. All post-launch content and DLC will be available for purchase separately. To compare, the Ultimate Edition gives buyers early access to the game on May 18.

In terms of content, the premium option includes a free copy of the Xbox One version of State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition. Furthermore, the Daybreak Pack and Independence Pack DLC are part of the bundle but will be released at a later date.

Development Details And More

The original State of Decay made its debut on Xbox Live Arcade in 2013. Undead Labs officially announced the State of Decay 2 at E3 2016. The game studio started out its development with the use of CryEngine but eventually shifted to Unreal Engine 4.

Along with Sea of Thieves, which comes out this month for the Xbox One and PC, the sequel is the second first-party title included in Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service. It features a four-player cooperative gameplay, which is also cross-platform compatible. It means that gamers on either platform can play together to complete mission goals and more.

The preorder for both State of Decay 2 Standard Edition and Ultimate Edition can be made via the Microsoft Store. Huge game retailer Amazon, however, only offers the Standard Edition.
