The release date of Days Gone, the upcoming post-zombie apocalypse game exclusive for the PlayStation 4, was pushed back from this year to sometime in 2019.

Sony confirmed that the title will be delayed to next year but failed to provide an official explanation. It is easy to speculate, however, that the Days Gone release date was moved to 2019 to make way for another post-zombie apocalypse game.

'Days Gone' Delayed To Give Way To 'The Last Of Us Part II'

Zombie game enthusiasts have been looking forward to Days Gone ever since it was unveiled at E3 2016, but it appears that the wait will last a bit longer.

Days Gone was initially expected to be released within the year, but the game's page on the official PlayStation website has been updated to show a release date of 2019.

"Days Gone will now be releasing in 2019 and we will keep you updated on the launch date," said a Sony spokesperson, confirming that the new release date on the PlayStation website is not a mistake.

There is no official word on why the Days Gone release date was pushed back to next year. It is plausible to think that the development team needs more time on the game, though, as previous trailers show that it may be one of the most technically demanding titles ever made for the PlayStation 4.

However, perhaps a better explanation for the Days Gone delay is to make way for the launch of The Last of Us Part II, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2013 title. Days Gone and The Last of Us Part II are both PlayStation 4 exclusives set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies, and it is understandable for Sony to give the games separate launch windows.

Days Gone might not get the attention that it deserves when it is released near the launch of The Last of Us Part II, as The Last of Us continues to be a very popular game. The delay will likely be a good thing for Days Gone.

'Days Gone' vs 'The Last Of Us Part II'

While both games feature characters who are trying to survive in a world overrun by zombies, there is a distinct difference between Days Gone and The Last of Us Part II.

In Days Gone, the action is much more intense, with hundreds of zombies called Freakers tearing through landscapes as a crushing horde. There is even a zombie bear, which is one of the most arresting visuals of E3 2017.

Meanwhile, The Last of Us Part II, if it will follow the successful formula of the first game, will be an emotional roller coaster that tells the next chapter in the adventures of main characters Joel and Ellie.
