Smartphone use has been increasing at an exponential rate. These days, people use smartphones for just about anything, and according to a report from PornHub, even porn.
PornHub is a porn aggregator that enjoys a very large user base. According to the recent statistics released by the site, the majority of porn in the U.S. is now viewed using smartphones. Fifty two percent of the content on PornHub is now viewed on mobile devices. On the other hand, 10 percent of the site's content is viewed using tablets. The remaining 38 percent is viewed on desktops and laptops. This shows a marked improvement comparing it to the results of 2012. Back in 2012, only 47 percent of PornHub's content was viewed on smartphones while only 7 percent was viewed on tablets.
While PornHub is just one spoke in the giant cog that is the porn industry, the site's viewer base is nothing to scoff about. PornHub received 14.7 billion visits this year alone. On average, the site received 1.68 million visitors per hour. The videos on the site also received a combined total of 63.2 billion views.
"Over the last year, our oh-so-valued users came to PornHub an astonishing fourtee bullion, seven hundred, seventy-five million times," PornHub said. "The number of users who came to (and thanks to) our site, is so big that we had to make sure we were writing it our correctly. That works out to roughly 1.68 million visits per hour over the entire year. Thanks for giving our servers the workout you did this year." PornHub adds.
According to PornHub, January was also the site's busiest month of 2013 for the United States as well as many countries in Europe. On the other hand, the site's leanest month for the same territories was August. Monday was the busiest day of the week while Sunday was the least busy. The average amount of time American visitors spent on the site was 10 minutes and 39 seconds.
The site said that the Americans also topped the list in terms of minutes spent per day on watching porn, with an average visit duration of 10.39 minutes a day, followed by the UK (9.34 minutes), France (9.16 minutes), Italy (8.09 minutes) and Germany (8.07 minutes).
While these results are very impressive, they should not come as a big surprise since the porn industry has long been one of the driving forces of the Internet.
