Since its release in 1983, A Christmas Story has become a staple of holiday movie line-ups. It's a classic. The leg lamp. The BB gun. Even if you haven't seen the movie in ages (or ever) the signature moments from the film are now deeply embedded in American pop culture. You can't turn on the TV during the holiday season without stumbling upon the movie or a reference to it.

If it had been released just a few years later, we might have actually seen A Christmas Story NES game that could have looked a little something like this.

The above is the latest from 8-Bit Cinema from CineFix, who have transformed a long line of movies into old-school video games.

I'll be perfectly honest -- the game probably would have been crap. It doesn't look terribly fun or interesting. It's mostly just Ralphie walking from place to place. Kind of boring. In true movie-to-classic video game adaptation, it needs to ramp things up a notch and include scenes not included in the film. Instead of licking one pole, Ralphie must lick 20 before time runs out, otherwise he will be beaten up by the neighborhood kids. Or a segment where Ralphie could use his BB-gun to play Duck Hunt.

Actually, A Christmas Story probably isn't the best Christmas movie to adapt into a video game. Maybe 8-Bit Cinema should try adapting Jingle All The Way instead. That would make one heck of a game.
