Following the launch of LG's newest flagship, the LG G7 ThinQ is the arrival of Android Oreo to T-Mobile's V30 and V30+.

This comes on the heels of Verizon and AT&T's release of the latest Android build for LG's 2017 flagships. However, there's a catch. It is not yet available over-the-air.

LG V30 And V30+ Android Oreo To Be Downloaded Manually

To update the LG V30 and V30+, users must manually download the latest Android 8.0 Oreo firmware with the April security update via LG Bridge. This, in turn, requires a Windows PC or a Mac.

If this route is not available, users can also update their LG devices by downloading the KDZ file uploaded by an XDA Senior Member. They can then flash their phones with LG UP.

Both methods, though, are not that safe compared to OTA updates. Major Android updates are delivered over-the-air mainly due to security and not just for convenience. Manually downloading a file and sideloading increases the risks in spite of using LG's official tools.

Although no problems have been reported so far, it is best to wait for the OTA update, which T-Mobile's Des Smith has confirmed to have been approved by the mobile company. It is expected to start rolling out to LG V30 and V30+ units sometime next week.

Android Oreo Update Brings ThinQ Branding

The Android Oreo update on the LG V30 and V30+ also brings the ThinQ branding, which indicates the inclusion of AI features. The 2017 devices will likely get the AI suite of technologies introduced in the LG V30S ThinQ this February at the Mobile World Congress, one of which is the AI CAM.

The technology recognizes different scenes and automatically sets the optimal shooting mode from eight categories. This, together with QLens for scanning QR codes and Bright Mode for brightening images, make up the Vision AI's intelligent features.

"Many companies talk about AI but we're already delivering on our promise by integrating intelligent technology in the LG V30S ^ThinQ to features most commonly used by our customers for a whole new level of convenience never before available in a smartphone of this caliber," said Hwang Jeong-hwan, president of LG.

He further added that the South Korean company will introduce more AI capabilities for an enhanced usability. He said that the company plans to prove its commitment to delivering a great user experience that continues after the purchase of an LG device.
