After a slew of leaks that revealed basically all core specs, the HTC U12+ is finally official and it's as beastly as expected, ready to compete at the high end of the smartphone market.

The HTC U12+ is the company's flagship smartphone for 2018 and it comes with top-notch specs, shaping up as a great alternative to more expensive Android flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 2 XL, Huawei P20 Pro, and others.

HTC U12 Plus Specs

The new HTC U12+ flagship comes with a 6-inch QHD+ Super LCD 6 display with Gorilla Glass protection for extra scratch resistance, and an all-glass design, albeit without wireless charging support. According to HTC, it decided against wireless charging so it could equip the handset with a bigger battery of 3,500 mAh.

The smartphone packs a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, a hefty 6 GB of RAM, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage space, and microSD support for external storage. IP68 certification, meanwhile, ensures that the device is water and dust resistant.

While the HTC U12+ doesn't follow the recent trend of sporting a display notch, it does fall into the category of smartphones with no headphone jack.

The HTC U12+ also shines in the camera department, rocking a total of four cameras -- two on the front and two on the back. The rear camera setup consists of a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens, while the front camera setup boasts two 8-megapixel cameras.

On the software side, the HTC U12+ is launching with Android 8.0 Oreo on board out of the box, which is a bit surprising considering that Android 8.1 hit the scene five months ago. Nevertheless, the handset is expected to get updates after release.

HTC Edge Sense 2

HTC made waves when it introduced its first squeezable smartphone, and the HTC U12+ now takes things to the next level with HTC Edge Sense 2. The technology enables users to squeeze the sides of the device to trigger various apps and shortcuts, and a new addition now allows users to shrink the screen simply by double-tapping on the side of the smartphone. With a 6-inch display, this should come in handy for better one-handed operation.

HTC U12 Plus Price And Availability

The new HTC U12+ already launched on preorder at a $799.99 full retail price, and it's available on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or unlocked. The unlocked versions are compatible with all aforementioned carriers. The smartphone comes in two color options -- Ceramic Black and Translucent Blue.
