It's been a long time since anything great came out of the Indiana Jones franchise. The fourth movie, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, seemed tailor-made to take everything fun about the series and coat it with a thick layer of bland CGI. Fans wondered if they'd ever get to see a true return to form for Dr. Jones, and while Harrison Ford seemed eager enough to do a new film, commitments with a little project called Star Wars could interfere.

Never fear: Disney reportedly has another every-man/goofball/scruffy-looking adventurer lined up, and you're already familiar with him: Chris Pratt.

According to Deadline, Pratt is at the top of Disney's list for the lead role in an upcoming Indiana Jones revival. There's no word on anyone else on the list, nor is there any news on any possible involvement from Ford - even so, the idea makes a lot of sense.

Let's face it: Chris Pratt's role in Guardians of the Galaxy was basically a goofier, slightly dumber take on the Indiana Jones character. On top of that, Pratt's next big blockbuster role - that of the lead in Jurassic World - looks to be almost entirely based off of the archetype that the Indiana Jones movies first popularized.

There's no denying that Pratt's a great fit for that type of part, and he's proven that he can go from a silly show like Parks and Recreation to a more serious role. Pratt's also a huge commodity right now, and his name carries a lot of weight.

The only thing really going against Pratt is the role itself: Harrison Ford defined what an action movie hero could be with the Indiana Jones character, and even though Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was relatively terrible, his performance was easily the best part of the film. It's an incredibly huge pair of shoes to fill, and if the movie isn't done right, it could end up backfiring on both Disney and Pratt himself.

Of course, it's far too early to make any judgement - until Disney or Pratt's representatives makes an official announcement, everything is still just a rumor.
