Drinking during the Super Bowl is deeply ingrained in American culture. Heavy, even unhealthy levels of drinking are basically encouraged throughout the big game, and as such, there are always a few drivers who are far too intoxicated to drive home safely. It's a sad side effect of sports culture today, and while there are plenty of responsible drivers on Super Bowl Sunday, there are still far too many drunk ones.

Thankfully, AAA is stepping up to help the problem: while it won't stop people from drinking far too much, the 'Holiday Safe Ride' program is at least keeping them off the road. On Super Bowl Sunday, for any driver in need of help getting home, all of AAA towing is completely free.

As detailed on the program's main page, the towing is free following Super Bowl XLIX. It's not a nationwide program, but AAA branches in several different states are giving out free rides for those who are too drunk to drive.

The states in which the Holiday Safe Ride program is available in are as follows:

- AAA Arizona
- AAA Auto Club Group (includes Florida, Georgia and Tennessee under "Tow-to-Go")
- Automobile Club of Southern California
- AAA Northern California
- AAA Nevada
- AAA Utah

While it's a shame that the program is relatively limited, it's a huge move on AAA's part. Not only is it a huge charity on the company's behalf, but it could help solve a lot of driving troubles following the Super Bowl this Sunday. Those without a designated driver or out of the range of any major cab companies will actually have a safe way to get home this year.

Remember, it's alright to have a few during the game - just don't get behind the wheel of a car.
