Once upon a time, Terminator was one of the greatest sci-fi franchises ever. It featured an iconic character, theme song and story - it was the whole package.

Unfortunately, Hollywood decided to keep making more Terminator movies, and what was a perfect story of changing fate is now a muddled mess of a series.

The team behind Terminator Genisys seems like they truly want to turn the franchise around, but fans have only gotten to see a few short minutes of footage.

From what the team has shown, the movie could be good - but it could also be so, so terrible. If you were hoping for a clearer answer on the movie's quality following the latest trailer...you're still out of luck.

From a story perspective, there's a lot in Terminator Genisys that could help bring the franchise back on track. Time travel opens up a lot of doors in terms of re-writing canon, and the production team is using it to full effect. Anything that could erase the last two movies out of history will be just fine with fans...it's the moment-to-moment action that seems so wonky.

Yes, it's cool to see the aging Terminator go up against its younger self, but what's with Arnold headbutting a helicopter? On top of that, how are we supposed to believe the Terminator is going to have any sort of trouble pulling two people up off of the side of a bridge? The T-1000 is cool and all, but we've already seen that before - even Terminator 3 introduced something new, despite it being relatively terrible...

There's definitely a chance that the trailers simply aren't doing the film any justice - it's clear that there's a lot of cutting going on, just so the trailers can hit the typical action movie trailer tropes. With any luck, the final film won't be quite so ridiculous...though, unfortunately, that helicopter headbutt will probably make it in.

With only a few months left before its debut, fans won't have much longer to wait - hopefully, Genisys can put the franchise back on top, instead of dooming it to mediocrity.

Terminator Genisys will hit theaters on July 6.
