Verizon has rolled out what is apparently a new and improved version of Android 5.0 Lollipop update to users of the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone on its network.

Almost two months ago, Verizon reportedly began rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to users of Samsung's then latest flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5. Although it was not officially announced, at some point, the company halted the rollout, apparently due to user issues with the new OS on the device.

Now, Verizon has officially rolled out a new version of the update to Galaxy S5 owners on its network. The company officially announced the rollout, stating, "Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce an operating system update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This version brings Android beyond smartphones and tablets, allowing access to apps and Android services on other connected screens like TV's, cars and wearables. The new material design offers complex animations, 3-D views and improved runtime."

The notice announcing the update doesn't indicate any specific changes from the previous update other than the build number. Instead, earlier issues with the update running properly have apparently been addressed.

Now, all of the major carriers-Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile-- except AT&T have officially released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Samsung's flagship smartphone. AT&T, which has been criticized for lagging on updates, recently acknowledged that the update for the device on its network should be arriving soon. Then the company released the Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 3, with no Galaxy S5 update in the mix yet.

The move by Verizon comes just as Samsung is preparing to release the successors to the Galaxy S5, the highly anticipated Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The new flagship handsets are already receiving preorders on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular, with Verizon sticking to its guns and not taking preorders until April 1 as it previously announced.
