Just days before Samsung officially releases its new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones, Amazon has just announced that it is now taking preorders for both handsets.

Verizon was the first major U.S. carrier to announce its Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge preorder date. While the carrier was the first to provide an exact date, which is April 1, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint beat Verizon to the preorder punch by starting preorders on March 27.

While Verizon customers looking to preorder the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will need to wait until April 1, Amazon has also beaten Verizon by offering preorders for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge via its online store.

The retailer is now letting customers preorder the 32 GB and 64 GB AT&T and Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Amazon is also offering free shipping with the purchase of either handset.

As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge share the same powerful internals, like a 64-bit octa-core processor, Mali-T760 GPU (graphics processing unit) and 3 GB of RAM. Both smartphones feature a 5.1-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD Super AMOLED display with a density of 577 pixels per inch (ppi), and in the S6 Edge's case, it's packing a dual-edge curved display.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge also come with the added convenience of having wireless charging built in, although you'll need to provide the wireless charging pad. Its non-removable 2,550 mAh battery will provide up to 1200 minutes talk time and 480 hours of standby time.

Amazon is also offering the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge for those who don't want to sign a new two-year contract with carriers.
