HTC has announced the HTC One M9+, which is to the HTC One M9 what the Apple iPhone 6 Plus is to the iPhone 6.

The new device takes the HTC One M9 and gives it an improved display, a fingerprint scanner and other better features than its smaller brother.

Design

The design of the HTC One M9+ is almost exactly the same as the smaller HTC One M9. It is also almost exactly the same as the previous generation of the HTC One M8 and even the HTC One M7.

That's not to say that the design is bad, as it features a sleek, industrial brushed metal look. HTC could, however, benefit from updating its design, as it is expected to do in the next iteration of the HTC One. The One M9+ also features a fingerprint scanner, however, that isn't totally obvious just by looking at the device.

The back of the One M9+ is a little different than the One M9 in that it reintroduces the "Duo Camera" technology that was found in the One M8 but was left out of the One M9.

While the "plus" on the end of the name suggests a rather significant leap from the One M9, the M9+ is only slightly larger.

Display

One of the main reasons to buy the larger device is, of course, the larger display. The HTC One M9+ increases the 5-inch display on the M9 to 5.2 inches, and takes the full HD resolution on the M9 and brings it to quad-HD or 2560 by 1440 pixels. What that essentially means is that the pixel density has increased by a lot from the 441 ppi found on the smaller device to a pretty impressive 565 pixels.

Camera

The front-facing camera is the same 4 megapixels on both devices, but the rear camera is, as mentioned, quite different. The device brings back the Duo Camera concept, totaling around 20 megapixels, while the One M9 sticks with a standard 20.4 megapixel camera. It's important to note that simply because the camera on the M9 has more megapixels does not give it a better camera, and the Duo Camera idea should help improve the image quality.

Under The Hood

The One M9+ replaces the Snapdragon 810 found in the One M9 and instead offers a 2.2 GHz MediaTek MT6795T processor. The RAM of the device, however, stays at 3 GB, which is certainly not a bad thing and is on the higher end of RAM offered in smartphones these days.

Conclusions

The One M9+ certainly has better specs than the One M9. It is, however, important to note that the One M9+ is currently only available in China. It is certainly possible that HTC will bring the device to the U.S. at some point in the future, however, and if it does, it is very likely to sell given the emphasis on larger phones these days.
