Minecraft's Steve character is so pixelated, you almost can't tell if he's male or female, even though his name gives it away. Still, the latest update to come to Minecraft's Xbox and PlayStation versions on Wednesday brings with it an important change to your avatar's appearance.

Players will soon be able to carry out their blocky adventures in Minecraft as a woman. Mojang, the developer behind Minecraft, will introduce free Alex skins to all consoles starting Wednesday.

Mojang's Chief Word Officer Owen Hill describes this female skin as having "thinner arms, redder hair, and a ponytail," as compared to the current Steve avatar, in a blog post about the update published Monday. In case you need a visual aid before you actually get to see the update IRL, Hill says the new skin kind of looks like Minecraft developer Jens Bergensten.

"Jolly old Steve doesn't really represent the diversity of our playerbase," Hill wrote in a blog post. "For that reason, we're giving all players [the] opportunity to play with an Alex skin instead."

Just like Steve, Alex will be available in eight different styles in all, which means, in addition to the default version, Alex will be available as a boxer, cyclist and in a Scottish style, according to Ars Technica. The Alex skin pack already debuted in Minecraft for the PC in August and on the mobile version in December.

As if this update couldn't get any more awesome, a new set of skins modeled after characters from The Simpsons will also be coming to Minecraft for PlayStation only. The Simpsons skins are already available on Microsoft consoles. The new skin pack inspired by the beloved animated series now in its 26th season on Fox lets you play as all of your favorite characters, including the members of the Simpson family, Principal Skinner and Groundskeeper Willie, just to name a few.

Finally getting to play as someone who looks like you and/or as your favorite TV show character? It doesn't get much better than that.
