If you're getting a little bored with your old pizza choices and you're in for something different, you can head on to Mega Ill café in East Vancouver where you can try out their special pizza that comes with a controversial topping, marijuana.

The pizzeria charges an extra $10 if you want your pizza infused with THC, the active ingredient found in cannabis plants that gives the feeling of being "high."

"Basically, we infuse it through an oil-extraction process," said Mega Ill employee Anthony Risling. "We drizzle the oil onto the pizza and it medicates you when you eat it. It's a little different from smoking it. It takes about a half hour for it to activate."

Even if $10 is just spare change for you, it doesn't mean that the pizzeria will serve you their pot-drizzled pizza since marijuana is only available with prescription. Mega Ill only serves slices of the pot pizza to people who are at least 18 years old and have prescription for medical marijuana.

"With a dream of a marijuana friendly establishment serving hemp heart pizza with a one of a kind taste, Mega iLL was born. We strive to offer healthy food in a pot friendly environment with a positive attitude and outlook on life," Mega Ill says on its website.

The pizzeria is the first pizzeria-vapour lounge in Vancouver conceptualized by owners Mark and Stephen Klokeid as a place where people can medicate. Stephen Klokeid, a medical marijuana user himself, got the inspiration for the pizzeria during a trip to Cambodia where he happened to have visited a pizzeria that sells marijuana and can add it on your ordered pizza.

Customers who would want to try the pot pizza at Mega Ill though would have to bring their own pot as the establishment does not sell cannabis. The owners of the pizzeria said that business has so far been good.

"We have been really busy. Response has been so good that I might have to hire another person soon," Stephen Klokeid said.

New medical marijuana regulations, however, will take effect this month and this may have a negative effect on Mega iLL as the pizzeria may have to stop making their renowned marijuana-infused pizza.
