Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida just confirmed on Twitter that a Bloodborne expansion is coming and said that more details on it would arrive this year.

Based on the language in his tweet, it appears the expansion should provide more hours of gameplay for Bloodborne. While the terms "DLC" and "expansions" are often used interchangeably, expansion packs typically bring more gameplay to video games and rarely ever refers to anything as minor as cosmetic content.

So it appears Sony and From Software haven't quite "maximized" Bloodborne's potential yet, though that's how the game was described by Fergal Gara, head of Sony's Computer Entertainment division in the UK and Ireland.

Bloodborne's success surprised Sony, which expected the game to sell well, stated Gara in recent interview with MCV. Sony's UK market was pushing the game more aggressively than its sister territories, but the game's success proved that ambitious effort is still a bit too conservative, he said.

"I think Bloodborne might have just landed just at the right time; it was a relatively quiet time, it was a very high quality title and a great platform differentiator for us," Gara said. "We were caught a little bit behind in terms of the volume, but we were able to chase it and maximize its potential."

During that same interview with MCV, Gara made the now infamous statement asserting that Sony will treat No Man's Sky, a multiplatform space exploration game, as if it were a first-party title. No Man's Sky will arrive on Sony's PlayStation 4 as a timed exclusive and will eventually launch on at least one other platform: PC.

"If it all comes together as well as expected, it will be treated like a first-party release," said Gara. "It is not a self-published small indie title on the platform."

Hello Game's previous titles were all released on PC, Sony and Microsoft platforms. The studio's upcoming No Man's Sky hasn't been confirmed for Xbox One, though Microsoft Chris Charla said he'd love to see the game brought to its latest console. He also pointed out that Hello Games would have to make the decision to bring it to the Xbox One.
