With a new generation of Windows smartphones coming, it looks like Microsoft is cutting down the prices its devices to the bone.

Best Buy is now selling the Nokia Lumia 635 Virgin Mobile version for only $39.99 free of any commitments. That is an equivalent savings of $60 from its usual purchase price of $99.99.

The 4G Windows-based Nokia Lumia 635 features a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS LCD screen running a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels at a PPI of 221. It is not one of the available phones with the maximum PPI ratios, but the quality of the display is decent with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the budget-conscious consumers. Inside the Lumia 635, the phone runs nicely with basic operations due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, a SoC that boasts of an Adreno 305 GPU and a quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz.

Best Buy is currently offering two models of the Nokia Lumia 635 for Virgin Mobile. One comes with 1GB of RAM, while the other only comes with 512 MB of RAM. Interestingly, both Virgin Mobile versions of the 1 GB and the 512 MB variants are on sale for $39.99 over at Best Buy. Customers have to visit the store and pick up the 1 GB model while the retailer would ship the buyer the 512MB version. It is highly recommended for those who like to experience better fluidity across the board the 1GB of RAM unit.

In the camera department, the Lumia 635 comes with a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera on the rear, but there is no front-facing camera available. The camera has no flash but the handset features the Lumia exclusive and handy camera app, Nokia Camera, which has a fast and convenient interface.

Other specs include 8 GB of onboard storage space that actually translates to a 4.82 GB useable memory, but fortunately, a micro SD card slot that supports up to 128 GB is included. The 4G LTE connectivity is the great feature that makes the handset a good value for money. The phone could also connect to Xbox for access to videos, games, and music. It also comes with an 1830mAh battery that could pull over almost 2 days of normal usage from a full charge.

The phone currently boots Windows Phone 8.1, but Microsoft stated that this model is included on the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile later this year when the new operating system launches.
