Mad Max: Fury Road is performing surprisingly well at the box office, especially outside of the United States. With the amount of competition, the film is facing, who would have thought that it could ever make $300 million.

To make matters even more interesting, the movie has yet to launch in Japan and China. In these markets, especially China, Mad Max could very well increase its tally by another $150 million, and that would put it squarely in the greenlight for a sequel.

We know that the director, George Miller, has already made plans for two more movies in the Mad Max franchise. According to the director, the scripts for both sequels have already been written, so now all that is needed is for the returning to actors to find the time to get production underway.

Mad Max: Fury Road is the fourth film in the long-running franchise. The first movie came out back in 1979 starring Mel Gibson as Max Rockatansky. The actor went on to star in 2 more Mad Max films but was replaced by Tom Hardy in Fury Road.

Many believe that Mel Gibson was replaced due to his past actions, which made him unfit to lead a movie since he is not viewed in a favorable light by the media and millions around the world.

With Fury Road coming off as successful, the next film in the franchise will be called, Mad Max: The Wasteland, and it is expected that the other will be called Mad Max: Furiosa. We suspect that last one will have Charlize Theron's character as the main lead instead of Tom Hardy.

When will these films be released? No word yet. It took 2 years for the second film in the franchise, 4 for the third, and 30 years for the fourth. The others might not take as long since George Miller is 70-years-old, so we doubt he would feel inclined to wait a very long time to get things up and running.
