With so many upcoming game releases this year, one of the smartest gadgets to invest in is a good-quality game controller. After all, hours spent conquering challenges won't be as fun without an A-one controller for an A-one player.

At this week's E3 video game convention, Microsoft introduced a new-generation controller for Windows 10 and Xbox One users. The controller is aptly named the Xbox One Elite, which suits the elite and serious players that will be lining up to add this to their gaming arsenal.

The Xbox One Elite controller is designed for hardcore and extremely skilled gamers who require and appreciate precision performance. This Elite controller should not be confused with the updated Xbox One controller, which Microsoft also introduced earlier this month. The updated Xbox One controller comes with a 3.5mm jack to plug in a gaming headset but the One Elite controller features so much more.

Admittedly, at $149.99 the Xbox One Elite Controller can be quite damaging to the pocket but reviewing the features of this badass baby, I for one can't wait for its release in October. And to help you make up your mind about this beautiful gadget, here is a quick rundown of what the Elite offers:

Swapping and Customization

The Elite allows gamers to swap parts to fit their gaming requirements. Parts such as six stainless steel analog thumbsticks and two D-pads can be swapped in and out depending on your hand size and playing style. The Elite will also help improve gamer's accuracy, speed, range and skills with the different sizes and shapes of the new thumbsticks. The rubberized diamond grip also allows for a non-slip, more stable and considerably more comfortable gaming experience

The backside of the controller has four slots for interchangeable paddles that are easy to remove and reconfigure depending on your gaming needs. These paddles allow your fingers more control and while in the middle of intense gaming scenarios. Basically, you don't need to take your thumbs off the thumbstick when executing jumps and complicated shooting combos.

Hair Trigger Locks

Located at the top of the controller is the new Hair Trigger Lock, which allows gamers to fire quickly with each trigger pull while playing shooter games. This feature stops the trigger movement after the shot is taken and allows you to get ready for the next one. With a simple flip of the switch, you can get back to full range trigger motion allowing you to save precious time.

Leveling Up

Microsoft has taken the Elite a notch higher by creating a configuration app gamers can acquire for Xbox and Windows 10 for further customization of your Elite controller. The configurator app allows you to fine-tune the sensitivities of the analog sticks, adjust the hair trigger from minimum to maximum values, switch button assignments by assigning any of the 14 inputs to the ABXY buttons, and create as many controller setting profiles for easy switching between games allowing for a tailor fit setting per game.

Note that each created profile is stored in the cloud while only two profiles can be saved in the controller, which means you can take your gaming profiles with you anywhere you go.
