Set to arrive next month, the OnePlus 2 is bringing with it a heat-checked version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810.

There shouldn't be much surprise about the OnePlus 2's processor, as leaked benchmarks of the handset tipped its use of the Snapdragon 810. Heading up to the handset's July 2015 release, a OnePlus representative confirmed that the company had again partnered with Qualcomm on modifying the eight-core processor for a OnePlus phone.

"Just like we did with the OnePlus One, our engineers debated endlessly over which CPU would be the perfect fit for the 2," said OnePlus. "While we played around with other options, we always came back to the 810."

The OnePlus 2 will use an updated version of the Snapdragon 810: Snapdragon 810 version 2.1. Dubbed "ultimate connected computer processor," OnePlus says the CPU will put desktop power and performance in the palms of consumers' hands.

"We worked very closely with Qualcomm's engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software," said OnePlus." The 2 will be 'cooler than ever.'"

To be more specific, OnePlus explained what was done to keep the Snapdragon 810's heat in check. Thermal gel and graphite were layered on top of the CPU's cores. The gel transfers the heat from the CPU to the graphite, which serves as a conduit and helps the thermal energy dissipate.

"After rigorous testing, the 2 meets the industry standard for phone temperature, even with hours of use," said OnePlus.

In addition to applying a new heatsink and thermal gel to the CPU, OnePlus' new Oxygen OS has been optimized for the Snapdragon 810. Some of the CPU's eight core are designed for high performance task, such as gaming, while others require less power and are ideal for simpler tasks.

The Oxygen OS knows which cores are best suited for whatever task that's thrown at the Snapdragon 810. And it also avoids using neighboring processing cores, which help minimize the heat buildup in and around the CPU.

"The Snapdragon 810 v2.1 is just the beginning of something beautiful," said OnePlus.
