Keep those Pip-Boy replicas fresh, as Bethesda says production of the devices is done. The manufacturer of the Pip-Boy replicas turned down Bethesda's latest request for more.

Bethesda announced a limited run of the Pip-Boy edition of its upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter Fallout 4. The replica of the Personal Information Processor, tech from another timeline, will leverage the power of a plugged-in smartphone to bring Fallout 4's heads-up display to wrists, though the novelty product may be too cumbersome for many players.

Pete Hines, vice president of marketing at Bethesda, wanted to make it clear that had a "sh-t ton" of the Pip-Boy replicas made, much more than the 1,000 or so that had allegedly been produced.

"We did a ton of these things," Hines said. "I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector's edition we've ever done, ever."

Bethesda offered the $120 Pip-Boy edition of Fallout 4 through several retail outlets, updating series fans as supplies ran dry and fresh stock arrived. The company was going back to the Pip-Boy producer every time supplies ran low, but it got to the point that the manufacturer finally said that it was done allocating lines to the production of the replica, according to Hines.

"We'd go back to [the factories] and say, 'Demand for this is insane, we've got to make more,'" Hines said. "And they'd move other projects off or shift stuff to other factories and it just came to [them telling Bethesda], 'Final answer: sorry, this is as many as we can make.' And we sold every single one of those that we could."

The demand that saw that "sh-t ton" of Pip-Boys sell out in under two months attests to the hot summer Bethesda has been having. The company's first-ever appearance at E3 was praised for its content and execution, while the mobile marketing tool for the upcoming Fallout 4 shot to the top of the charts in Apple's App Store although the Android version of the game hasn't even been released yet.

For Android fans looking to get their fingers on Fallout Shelter, Hines recently revealed that the game will hit the Google Play store on Aug. 13. It's not long now.
