As rumored, anticipated, and generally expected, Samsung took the wraps off its new Galaxy Note 5 smartphone at its Unpacked event in New York City today, a few weeks ahead of the phone's traditional IFA debut.

The handset is an attempt to support a large screen without having an overwhelmingly large footprint, adding some nice curved design touches to avoid feeling unweild in spite of its large 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display.

Inside you'll find such high-end aspects as an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 4GB RAM and 32- or 64GB of storage. There's also a hard 30000mAh battery on-board for all day life.

The big phone sports similiar glass and metal design language as the Galaxy S6. as well as a couple of new features, including an easily ejectable S-Pen and the ability to write when the display is off. The device will also ship with Samsung's forthcoming mobile payment system, Samsung Pay, which will be turned on here in the States next month.

The Note 5 itself will hit on August 21st, joined by its similiarly-speced sibling, the Galaxy S6 Edge, which was also announced today. Interested parties can pre-order the device this afternoon at 3PM ET.
