Asus is taking the approach of adding as many options as possible to its just-announced Transformer Book V. It has five operating modes, including Windows 8.1 laptop, Android tablet and smartphone, and more.

At this year's Computex, Asus unveiled a unique device with its Transformer Book V. The device is being met with some skepticism and is viewed as possibly doing too much in an effort to offer consumers as many usability options as possible in a single device. To create a device that assumes five different aspects, Asus' Transformer Book V tries to appeal to Windows and Android users by releasing a single device that runs both OS systems. Why choose?

The Asus Transformer Book V takes 'transforming' to extremes. The tablet/laptop hybrid can offer users who are interested in trying out the Windows 8.1 platform options in the form of a tablet and laptop (detachable keyboard), while also offering the ability to use the device with Android OS in tablet, laptop, and smartphone form. This means you're sort of getting five devices in one.

Asus seems to have its eye on Microsoft's just-announced Surface 3, which features a 12-inch display and is smaller than the Transformer Book V's 12.5-inch 1080p Full HD display. The tablet will be able to click into a full laptop-sized keyboard/dock that will appeal to both Windows and Android fans. The tablet has a dedicated button that allows users to instantaneously switch between Windows 8.1 and Android, providing users an easy way to use the tablet and be productive in either Windows 8 or Android.

The Asus Transformer Book V will use a powerful Intel Core processor and an HD display. While it is in tablet mode, users will have 128 GB of internal storage at their disposal, but when switched to laptop mode the device has up to 1 TB of storage.

Asus has not revealed when it will begin selling the Transformer Book V in the United States. It will be very interesting to see if Asus' new plan catches on.
