The latest Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch will be compatible with non-Samsung smartphones as well.

Samsung announced the Gear S2 that has a circular design on Aug. 31. The latest Samsung smartwatch has an innovative rotating bezel with a Home and Back button. The smartwatch will be available in two options, the Gear S2 and Gear S2 classic.

"Samsung designed the Gear S2 to appeal to two distinct consumer preferences. The Gear S2 classic is made for users who prefer a more timeless watch design, offering an elegant Black finish with a matching genuine leather band. The Gear S2 is ideal for those who are on-the-go and have an admiration for minimal and modern design," stated Samsung.

The Gear S2 is 11.4 millimeters thin and 1.2 inches in diameter. The display has a 360 x 360 pixel resolution and 302 ppi for a great viewing experience. The smartwatch runs on the Tizen operating system, while a 1GHz dual core processor powers it.

The predecessor of the Gear S2, the Gear S, also included many features that attracted smartwatch enthusiasts. However, the Gear S was compatible only with Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets, which would have left many non-Samsung smartphone and device owners unhappy.

However, the Gear S2 is compatible with a range of non-Samsung smartphones. Samsung says the Gear S2 can be used as a companion device for Android smartphones running on Android 4.4 Jelly Bean or above. The device should also have at least 1.5GB of RAM.

Samsung has released a list of non-Samsung Android devices that are compatible with the Gear S2, including the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Asus Zenfone 2, HTC One, HTC One (M8), HTC One (M9), Huawei Ascend Mate 7, Huawei Honor 6, LG G4, LG G Flex, Motorola Droid Turbo, Droid MAXX, Droid Mini, Moto X, Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4, Note Pro and more.

Other upcoming smartphones that have 1.5GB of RAM will also be compatible with the Gear S2.
