Super Mario Maker offers some really interesting gameplay but there was a catch: a nine-day wait before all building tools are unlocked. Players, however, may not have to wait that long as Nintendo has released a patch to speed up unlocks.

It was previously announced that Super Mario Maker's level editor will not be available with all building tools right away and, true enough, players have had to spend at least five minutes with the game to unlock new tools, which can be accessed the following day. The original schedule followed that all tools will be unlocked over the course of nine days, meaning it would take over a week of playing to get everything a player would need to fully enjoy Super Mario Maker.

Given they'll be playing Super Mario, players might not actually mind spending that much time with the game, but who likes to wait? Nobody. And many of those who have already gotten their hands on Super Mario Maker made sure their grievances known.

Fortunately, it appears Nintendo had been listening, thus releasing a patch that includes condition(s) for increasing the amount of useable parts (in the level editor) were added.

Just how these conditions work remains unclear but players have reported that items for the next day can be unlocked for spending as little as 15 minutes with the level editor. Spend another 15 minutes tinkering around and another day is locked. With this scenario, it's possible to gain access to all of the building tools by just editing levels for over two hours in one sitting. Not a big problem actually, most especially if you're anyone obsessed with customizing.

For other players, building tools unlocked at two-hour intervals. That's longer than the mere 15 minutes that others are dealt with but that's still way better than waiting a day. There is no word yet from Nintendo as to what the official waiting time for unlocks is.

Aside from shortening the time between unlocks, the patch also added a story to the "Making a Course" scene and addressed some bugs. To start the update, make sure that the Wii U is connected to the internet as Super Mario Maker starts. "Ver. 1.01" should be displayed in the lower right corner of the game's title screen. Additionally, the patch will require at least 201MB of free space. Separate USB storage may be used if there is insufficient free space in the Wii U.
