With the premiere of Supergirl, CBS has released a brand new trailer, complete with never-before-seen footage of some of Kara Zor-El's superpowers — and the supervillains she uses them against.

We get a first look at the Department of Extranormal Operations – what we can suppose is a government facility that researches extranormal beings, aka aliens, superheroes and their powers – that DC Universe fans will know from the respective Titans and Young Justice series. Other treats include a showcase of Supergirl's powers, ranging from laser vision to freeze breath to flight, and a litany of supervillains, most pointedly Red Tornado (played by Peaky Blinders' Iddo Goldberg). 

Here's the official synopsis of the show's pilot episode:

"After 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

Aside from Melissa Benoist in the titutlar role, Supergirl also stars Calista Flockhart, Laura Benanti, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, Jenna Dewan Tatum, David Harewood, and last but not least, Dean Cain (most notably the former Superman of the 90s show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman).

Supergirl premieres on CBS on October 26.
