"Morphenomenal!" BOOM! Studios has just announced that comics writer Kyle Higgins will be jumping on as writer for the new flagship reboot of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.

Higgins is mostly known for his work with DC Comics, namely the Batman franchise (credits include Batman Annual, Batman Beyond 2.0 and Batman: Gates of Gotham). He was also the force behind Nightwing, and his first creator-owned series, C.O.W.L., was released in 2014.

It also appears that Higgins has been a fan of the franchise for a while now — at least according to a tweet sent about the first Power Rangers movie, which was released in 1995:

While this iteration of the Power Rangers comic line can be considered a reboot, it's a first-time affair for BOOM! Studios, which has never before dealt with any material in the Rangers-verse. Previous presses that housed the franchise have been Marvel Comics and Hamilton Comics. The series will also be made possible by BOOM!'s collaboration with Saban Brands.

In addition to Higgins' storyline involving the five Zord-driving teenagers, the issue will also include a coda by Mairghread Scott and Daniel Bayliss, which premiered during Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego, Calif.

The news of Higgins' hire as the reboot's comic writer comes in the wake of a Power Rangers revival kickstarted by the news of a new movie, set to open in theaters in 2017. In light of this, it looks like the quintessential Power Rangers catchphrase — "It's morphin' time!" — really applies.

The first comic in the line — issue zero — is set to be released in January 2016.

For the sake of nostalgia, here is the intro to the original American Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers in the clip below.
