According to a report by South Korea's Electronic Times, Samsung will be using Qualcomm processors for some of the company's upcoming flagship Galaxy smartphones.

It was revealed that the Galaxy S7 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, for the models that will be released in the United States and China.

For all other locations, the flagship device will be packing Samsung's own Exynos processors, the report claimed.

The report, if true, will see Samsung partly change its decision on using Exynos processors for its flagship devices. For the Galaxy S6, Samsung decided to use the Exynos 7420 chipset in all locations, with one of the reasons for choosing the Exynos over the Snapdragon being that there were reports claiming overheating issues for Qualcomm's chipset.

The decision by Samsung to go with their Exynos processors as opposed to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 for the Galaxy S6 was a major blow to the chipmaker, but it seems that Samsung is holding true in its statement earlier in the year that the South Korean giant could still choose to utilize Qualcomm-made chips for future devices.

A spokeswoman for Samsung said that the company has a policy of not commenting on speculation and rumors. Qualcomm, on the other hand, was not immediately available to comment on the report.

The Snapdragon 820 features the Kryo cores of Qualcomm, with the quad-core CPU being paired with the Adreno 530 GPU. As an improvement to the Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm enhanced the Snapdragon 820 to have lower power requirements with better thermal management.

The rumored release date of the Galaxy S7 is February of next year, which is a couple of months earlier compared to the traditional release month of April for Samsung's Galaxy S devices. The earlier release date could be seen as the company's attempt for better competition against rival Apple.

Previous reports on the Galaxy S7 claim that it will also come in two variants, similar to the Galaxy S6 which also came as the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, which is likely the name for the curved model of the device, are dubbed the 'Hero' and 'Hero 2'.

Samsung could also be possibly bringing back microSD card support for the Galaxy S7, a feature which was taken out of the Galaxy S6 much to the dismay of users.
