Wal-Mart will now make the iPhone 5S and 5C more affordable to the masses by dropping their retail price tags by around $50 and $20, respectively.

The iPhone 5S dropped its store price tag from $149 to $99 at Wal-Mart. The iPhone 5C dropped in price from $49 to $29. Both are the 16-GB models of the phone. Even the iPod touch is getting a price drop, according to sources.

The aforementioned prices of Apple's phones at Wal-Mart are only available to customers signing up for a two-year contract with one of three providers: AT&T, Verizon or Sprint. Prepaid phones are not included. The phones must also be bought in an actual brick-and-mortar Wal-Mart store; no online orders. The sale began at 9 a.m. at the "local time" of each Wal-Mart location.

The permanent discount at Wal-Mart stores means that iPhone 4, 4S and 5 users have a decent opportunity to upgrade their current phones to the 5S or the 5C for a low price.

The Internet, meanwhile, is abuzz with talk of a near release date for iPhone 6, based on loose interpretations of trend data from Apple and the retail sector. Could the awaited iPhone 6 be coming soon to a big box store or online retailer near you (or near your fingertips)? The rumor is that Apple may release the newest version of its powerful mobile phone franchise as early as September.

The iPhone 6 is expected to be released in September and that the release will be a major upgrade from the 5 models in terms of screen size. Other anecdotes may point to a nearing release date for the trendy new phone as well. Best Buy, in May, held a trade-in deal that let users trade up versions of their iPhones for the 5C and 5S at significantly lower prices. Target is also slashing prices on its iPhones, according to sources. The new iPhone may become available as early as August based on current speculation, of course.

Rumors and sources online suggest that the screens on the new iPhone 6 will be offered in a 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch buying option. Reported leaks of the new phone with larger screen size may also have a different screen shape as well. It may, in fact, have a curved screen, an option that is becoming available on high-definition television screens. It may also have an advanced camera, but only time will tell.
