There might have been a delay, sans a new release date, for Pacific Rim 2, but Guillermo del Toro's recent tweet has kept the flame in the movie fans' hearts somehow alive.

del Toro also disclosed key information about the making of the science fiction monster film. The director took to Twitter to respond to all the tweets asking about the future of Pacific Rim 2.

"To answer all tweets re: PAC RIM 2: Budget ready. Awaiting script from John Spaihts. Then is up to the studios to give it a green light," he wrote.

Spaihts is Hollywood's "go-to-guy for space thrillers." His science fiction romance Passengers was included on the 2007 Black List of unproduced high-value screenplays. His pieces include The Darkest Hour, Prometheus, Doctor Strange, the upcoming films Passengers and The Mummy.

Pacific Rim 2, originally scheduled for an August 2017 release, will bring back stars Burn Gorman as Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler, Rinko Kikuchi as Mako Mori and Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Becket. The first installation of the film earned over $400 million in theatres. del Toro collaborated with Travis Beacham for the screenplay, while the latter worked on the story.

del Toro has recently expressed his aversion to big-budget blockbuster films, apart from Pacific Rim.

"The mechanics of action only interest me when it's a universe very, very close to my heart, which Pacific Rim is, and I love it. I'm not going to pursue action movies or superhero movies at all any more. I hope I can go back to doing the smaller, weirder ones," the 51-year-old director said, in possible reference to his films Blade II and Hellboy.

del Toro is known for his dark fantasy pieces such as Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. Fans can rest assured that he will continue to champion Pacific Rim 2, considering he left Justice League Dark to pursue the former.
